Adopt a Soldier
|
The WRK collects items to send care packages to a soldier, who is currently serving in another country. When he receives the care packages, he shares the items with other soldiers he is serving with.
Our soldiers greatly appreciate hearing from supportive Americans like you! Whether it’s a letter of encouragement or a care package of goodies, please know that any effort you make to support our troops is greatly appreciated. If you would like to send a care package, please contact us so we can send you a listing of requested items. We also suggest you include a self-addressed envelope (no stamp is needed) and a note saying “Please let me know when you receive this package.” You may bring items to donate to any of the WRK meetings.
Any monetary donations collected will go towards shipping of the care packages and purchasing additional items to send. A 25lb package costs around $16. Mail goes to NY and then the military carries it from there.

Operation Coupon
|
Thousands of military personnel are being called to duty to protect our county against terrorism. While these brave men and women are going off to protect our country they are leaving families at home. In an effort to help these families, we are collecting grocery coupons that will be sent to the families affected.
All we are asking for is grocery coupons. They can even be expired ones!! Many military families are able to use expired coupons up to 6 months from the expiration date. Most people just throw away coupons that they receive and we are asking Americans to send them to us instead of throwing them away.
Donations of stamps will also be accepted as these coupons are going to be mailed to families all over the United States.
**THIS EFFORT WILL CONTINUE FOR ALL LONG AS THEIR IS A NEED AND AS LONG AS DONATIONS CONTINUE TO COME IN.**
Bring your coupons to any of the WRK meetings or mail them to Tracie Grady at 4404 Chickahominy Avenue, Richmond, VA 23222.

Pop Tab Collection Program
|
Ronald McDonald Houses collect pop tabs instead of entire aluminum cans because the tabs are pure high-quality aluminum, unlike cans, which consist of aluminum and other alloys. Tabs are also easier to store than whole cans.
After the tabs are collected, the local RMHC Chapter brings the collection to local recycling centers, where they are weighed to determine their value. One pound of tabs is worth 57 cents, and one gallon of pop tabs (4,175 tabs) is worth $1.49. The recycling center then sends the local RMHC Chapter or House a check for the total value. To date, more than 400 million pop tabs have been collected, generating more than $4 million.
We turned in 26 lbs. of pop tops in February 2009. Please help us beat that total for February 2010!
Bring aluminum pop tops from soda and soup cans (no cat/dog food cans) to any of the WRK meetings or events.
