West Richmond Kiwanis Honors Local Students -  7/28/2010

The Kiwanis Club of West Richmond is proud to announce that it has awarded a new $5,000 scholarship to a local high school graduate. On July 28, 2010, members of the Kiwanis Club of West Richmond joined with Senator Walter A. Stosch in recognizing the achievements made by Miss Selma Avdic, who recently graduated from Douglas Freeman High School in Henrico County. Miss Avdic is scheduled to receive $625 each fall and spring semester for four years while she is attending Virginia Commonwealth

West Richmond Kiwanis Helps to “Strike Out Cancer” -  1/9/2010

On Saturday, January 9, 2010, the Kiwanis Club of West Richmond held the Third Annual “Strike Out Cancer Bowling Tournament” and “Celebrate Children Silent Auction” at the Bowl America Short Pump in Glen Allen, VA. Even in a down economy, the Club proved that kindness will prevail with 70 people participating in the bowling tournament and 29 donated items were auctioned off. WRK “Showers” The VCU Children’s Medical Center -  11/4/2009

On November 4, 2009, Kiwanians representing five (5) different Kiwanis Clubs met at the VCU Children’s Medical Center for a shower sponsored by the West Richmond Kiwanis.

 

During the summer, the West Richmond Kiwanis Club set up a tour of the Kiwanis Family Care Center and found they were in need of supplies to restock the Kiwanis Family Care Center as well as entertainment and educational items to give to the children who were receiving care at the hospital. West Richmond Kiwanis Helps to “Strike Out Cancer” -  1/17/2009

On Saturday, January 17, 2009, the Kiwanis Club of West Richmond held the Second Annual “Strike Out Cancer Bowling Tournament” and “Celebrate Children Silent Auction” at the Bowl America Short Pump in Glen Allen, VA. A record number of 103 people participated in the bowling tournament and approximately 50 donated items were auctioned off. WRK Goes Turkey!!!! -  11/19/2008
Members of the West Richmond Kiwanis Club joined together to give "thanks" for all of their many blessings. They decided to give tokens of appreciation to recipients of the Meals on Wheels services. Items crafted during the meeting include "soap turkeys", thankful leaves, napkin rings, and post cards. We appreciate the services of Meals on Wheels, and we encourage everyone to help support them.


The Grady Bunch Assists in Leadership of the West Richmond Club -  10/15/2008

Judy Hackler (formerly Grady) first joined the West Richmond Kiwanis by an invitation from her former employer’s accountant, Marion Allen. After attending several program meetings and feeling an overwhelming sense of welcome from the club’s members, Judy felt the club was an asset to the community and decided she wanted to be a part of the Kiwanis Club of West Richmond. Judy joined the club in 2004, and has been dedicated to the club ever since.

WRK Goes BINGO at the Elizabeth House -  6/9/2008
On Monday, 6/9/08, the West Richmond Kiwanis club hosted a bingo night at the Elizabeth House. The Elizabeth House is a Golden Living Community in Glen Allen, VA that houses assisted living residents. With more lifestyle choices in an assisted living center, a resident can have the comfort of "home" but in a more stable and secure environment. The Elizabeth House has suites with staff that includes a dietitian, a medication aide, an activity coordinator, housekeeping and maintenance employees.(more)
